The Prelude returns as a coupé just 1,349 mm tall, with adaptive dampers and the S+ Shift system, which simulates eight ratios over the e-CVT transmission to give the car the cadence of a conventional gearbox. Under the bonnet, the same 2.0 e:HEV with 184 hp as the Civic — but here with 8.2 seconds to 100 and a far lower centre of gravity.

The transmission is still an e-CVT, but S+ Shift imposes the cadence of an eight-speed gearbox on it: the revs rise and fall at the command of the paddles, and the engine note follows. It is a simulation, and Honda says so openly — but it solves exactly what everyone holds against a continuously variable hybrid.

Comfort, GT and Sport change the damping, the steering and the throttle response. Comfort mode is made for the daily commute, not offered as an alibi: at 1,473 kg and with adaptive dampers, the Prelude does not ask you to choose between comfort and body control.

Advance is the only trim level and it comes complete: a BOSE premium audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, adaptive LED matrix headlights and heated front seats.
