02Why the CX-60

Rear-wheel drive. Straight-six.

The CX-60 is the moment Mazda decided to take on the German premium brands directly — and did it with a longitudinally mounted straight-six, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic with no torque converter. It is an SUV built on an architecture the rest of the segment no longer offers.

5.1 litres from a 1.9-tonne SUV

The 3.3-litre straight-six with its mild hybrid system uses 5.1 l/100 km in the combined cycle and 4.4 on the motorway. A 58-litre tank means more than 1,100 km between fill-ups.

Rear-drive architecture

A longitudinal engine, drive to the rear wheels and weight distribution close to 50:50 — that is where the long bonnet and the rearward driving position come from. You feel the difference the moment you turn into a corner with speed: the car rotates around you rather than pushing you wide.

2.5 tonnes of towing

Braked, on an 8% or 12% gradient, the CX-60 tows 2,500 kilograms — a large caravan is well within reach. The stability control has a dedicated function for trailer sway, and the maximum roof load is 100 kg.
